High Five For Friday!

Happy Friday! I hope you had a great week. We had a lot of rain and I think I'm starting to grow webbed feet, but it's all good. Word is that webbed feet were seen on the fashion runways this season and are predicted to be hot this fall. Besides the webbed feet, here are the highlights of my week.

1. Jonnie's trip to San Francisco was cancelled and everyone in the household was very happy. These three are actually doing cartwheels in their head.

2. I received my first GLOSSYBOX!

3. I baked a Banana Split Cake and it was as delicious (and fattening) as it looks!

4.I'm officially hooked on Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" CD.

5. I ordered this beautiful gold chain necklace from etsy!

Fall Fashion for the Budgetista

With every new season new trends emerge and if you're a fashionista like me, it means spending money. You don't have to spend a lot of money to be trendy, however. Just choose a few a your favorite new trends, like this Fall's satchels, polka dots, oxfords, cat eye sunglasses and burgundy colors and you can use the pieces with your current wardrobe. If you're going to splurge on anything, I tell my daughters to always invest in a good handbag, shoes, and sunglasses. Take care of these key pieces and they will last you years. Here are a few pieces that I found at reasonable prices and a few key pieces that are an investment so you get the idea.

August GLOSSYBOX Review

I was so excited to open my mailbox and find my first GLOSSYBOX waiting for me. GLOSSYBOX is a monthly subscription service that delivers a specially curated box with a minimum of five deluxe travel-size beauty products to your door. The pink box is so beautifully packaged you almost hate to open it but inside you’ll find the crème de la crème of international brands for you to indulge in. The total cost of the box, which includes taxes and shipping and handling is $21.00 and honestly, I think it’s totally worth the price, especially if you’re a product junkie like me. Here are the contents of this month’s pink box and my review of each product.

The packaging of the GLOSSYBOX is exceptional. This month's theme was PURE LUXURY.

The contents of my GLOSSYBOX.
Exquisite Oil by Biolage (Replenishing Treatment) - this was my favorite product in my little pink box. The package says that it features a Moringa Oil blend formula that penetrates deep into the cuticle to replenish hair while protecting it from dulling impurities and that nothing is left behind but pure, weightless exquisite shine. Can be used on wet or dry hair and used in different ways depending on your needs. I used a few drops on towel dried hair and let my hair air dry; later, my hair was so soft and shiny I couldn't keep my hands off of it. I'm definitely going to purchase a full size bottle this week. I mean really, what's one more product to add to my hair regime? By the way, Matrix is  giving away 10,000 free samples of Biolage Exquisite Oil, click here to enter.
OLE Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster - according to Sephora this high-potency vitamin C complex prevents and corrects signs of aging while promoting brightness. This citrus miracle worker left my skin smooth, and definitely brighter.
Feel Like Honey Moon Skin Base - A honey and collagen based primer that provides a flawless and smooth surface for foundation and makeup. With natural extracts and vitamins, it firms and vitalizes skin, increases elasticity and reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles. I didn't really care for the smell, and honestly, I'm absolutely in love with Mary Kay's Foundation Primer. Feel Like Honey Moon needed to dry a bit before I could apply my foundation and didn't do anything for my skin, whereas Mary Kay's foundation primer is silky, dries instantly, leaves my skin feeling soft and my foundation stays put all day. I think I'll stick with my Mary Kay.

ELLIS FAAS Creamy Lips (L109) - Ellis Faas suggests wearing soft and velvety Creamy Lips for classic lipstick definition and long wearing coverage. While there are some lovely shades shown on their Creamy Lips webpage, L109 is certainly not for me and I think it is perhaps one of the ugliest lip colors I've ever seen.  I think the bullet shaped Creamy Lips is rather sexy and I may look at other colors. I'm so easily wooed by packaging.

ILLIAMASQUE Nail Varnish (Taint) - First just let me say that I'm faithful to OPI and Essie. However, I'm not going to turn down an exquisite nail color - no-sir-ee. However, if said color looks like I've just painted brownie batter on my toes, I'm likely to think twice. The picture speaks for itself. My husband, who travels more than he is at home, said that it looks like a color he sees all the time at airports. I don't care how popular it is, I'm not going to wear it. Not only was the color ugly but I've also never worn a matte and I couldn't get used to that; after putting on a top coat it looked better but a girl shouldn't want to lick their toes. I saw another blogger who painted her fingernails with the color and it looked okay; it still looked like she'd dipped her fingers in brownie batter and again, I wanted to lick her fingers.

In A New York State Of Mind

I love New York City - everything about it really. I love the people, the hustle and bustle, the food, the sights, the stores, - everything. I love the city most in December when the Christmas decorations are up and people are frantically shopping for the holidays. I love window shopping and popping in and out of the nearest Starbucks for a hot chai tea to warm up my fingers. I love Rockefeller Center and Central Park this time of year too. Of course, there is no better place to shop than NY City and while I'm there I always hit my favorite stores. I'm always carrying a camera as well, so unfortunately it's obvious I'm a tourist but I wouldn't leave "home" without it. Here is a small collection of photos that I've taken during several visits. Enjoy!

Only in NY. But hey, isnt' this the truth? I caught this photo a few years ago from the second floor of Hershey's in Time Square, NY. I love it.

My favorite time of year in NY City is Christmas. I love all of the store decorations, window displays, etc. As the world's largest department store and a registered New York City landmark, Macy's is more a shopping empire than mere retailer. Jonnie knows where to find me.

There isn't anything special about this photo except that I love Times Square and I have a funny story about a cab driver from Pakistan who continually called "Dunkin Donuts", "Dinkin Donuts" while I silented laughed my ass off in the back of the car.

We found David Picton & Friends playing in Washington Park and loved em.
I listen to their cd often.

You can't go to NY and not see a Broadway show; this was such a great show!

The beatuful skyline and Pier 17 from the bridge.

I'm not crazy about Louis Vuitton but I loved this!

Two of the things I love most about NY; the people and the food. This lovely young lady made me the best tasting crepe I ever had at Creperie - on the Lower East Side on Ludlow St.

Looks I'm Loving - Polka Dot Jeans

I'm loving Emma Roberts and Taylor Swift's polka dot jeans. These looks show how versatile dotted denim can be by styling it in two totally different ways. Emma is hipster-chic in a taupe tee, crossbody and sandals, while Taylor picks a preppy button-up and maroon loafers.

Another hot trend is combining orange and pink; here's how I would rock a pair of polka dot jeans and the pink/orange duo.

I was inspired today to share some of my photographs of flowers, bees, and butterflies. Enjoy!
